Newsflash

Most of the time, a horse has "monocular" vision. This means a different image is seen by each eye so that a horse is seeing two different pictures at the same time. A horse can also have "binocular" vision.

The Lots-O-Spots Spectacular, sponsored by the Dixieland ApHC,  was a spot-on success this past weekend. The Appy show was held at the Clearview Horse Farm Arena in Shelbyville, TN, and, as is  usual for Clearview, was very well-organized and very family friendly. Even the pets were having a great time!

Horse Lover staff was there for three of the Western Pleasure classes. National Appy club Vice President and trainer Steve Bennett placed first in two of the classes,  2 and 3 year old Western Pleasure.  Mr. Bennett said  that he wanted to  the come over from his home in North Carolina to this particular Appy show because the club is so friendly. He added that it is simply a nice show.  Steve's wife Jill won the Senior Western Pleasure class aboard  10 year old mare Sheza Iron Sensation.

Jo Schuchardt of Stem, NC, co-owns two horses that  competed in the show. Schuchardt's gelding (Miracle at Midnight) won the 2 YO Western Pleasure class, but her mare Miracle N Grace did not fare as well in her class.  Schuchardt was still enthusiastic because of the excitement and fun of the show!

Some local favorites  placed in the Western Pleasure classes also.  Savana Floyd of Franklin, TN, placed second in the senior Western Pleasure class aboard 15 year-old gelding Dandy Zipper. Savana trains with Lora Umlauf of Pferdekinder Farm (http://pferdekinder.com/index.html) in Franklin.

Judie Shults, the secretary of the Dixieland ApHC, stated that even though the club itself is located in North Alabama, the club  uses the Clearview facility because of the show-friendly atmosphere, great amenities, and helpful nature of owner Marie Lloyd!
