Most of the time, wherever a horse's ear is pointing is where the horse is looking with the eye on the same side.

Marianne England aboard Flying Solo

The recent show jumping event at Clearview Horse Farm in Shelbyville, TN evoked memories of the past as the July 10-11 event featured a Hunter Derby during the last portion of
the weekend show.  The results of the Derby are as follows:
  • 1st Flying Solo ridden by Marianne England
  • 2nd Bruno ridden by Alydda Grimes
  • 3rd Color Me Crazy ridden by Laura Galloway
  • 4th Kanga Roux Jack ridden by Amanda Martin
  • 5th Target ridden by Sara Reid
According to Dana Ives of Timberlane Farms which sponsored the weekend show, Hunter Derby is return to the traditions of the sport which stress basic riding principles and horsemanship.

Dana Ives watches the action.

There are three founds in a Hunter Derby: The Classic Hunter Style, The Handy Hunter Round, and the Jump Off Round.

Ives said that she scaled her competition to the level of the local riders in hopes of sparking a love of derby in the riders. All the riders in Sunday's Derby appeared to love the competition!
